Tantalum Tube (Ta Tubing)

Edgetech Industries LLC provides tantalum tube including seamless tubes and welded tubes & pipe. Welded tantalum tubing & piping is made from tantalum strip and tantalum foil, welded tubes can be with thin wall thickness and large OD.

Tantalum tube and tantalum tungsten alloy tubes
Material: R05200, R05400, R05252(Ta-2.5W), R05255(Ta-10W)
Size: Diameter: φ1.0-150mm, Thickness: 0.2-5.0mm, Length: 100mm-12000mm
Standard: As per ASTM B521-98

Tantalum tubing with OD<5mm can also be named as tantalum capillary, this is only available for pure tantalum. We can provide tantalum capillary with small heights, that will be tantalum marker bands

Tantalum Material Grades

R05200, unalloyed tantalum, electron-beam furnace or vacuum-arc melt, or both
R05400, unalloyed tantalum, powder-metallurgy consolidation.
R05255, tantalum alloy, 90 % tantalum, 10 % tungsten, electron-beam furnace of vacuum-arc melt, or both.
R05252, tantalum alloy, 97.5 % tantalum, 2.5 % tungsten, electron-beam furnace or vacuum-arc melt, or both.
R05240, tantalum alloy, 60 % tantalum, 40 % niobium, electron-beam furnace or vacuum-arc melt.

We guarantee the purity of 99.95% for our sintered quality tantalum (metallic purity without Nb) with bother melted tantalum (R05200) & sintered tantalum (R05400). Our sintered tantalum is used for those tricky situations: due to our powder metallurgy production process, sintered tantalum is particularly fine-grained. As a result, the material is very easy to work with and excels due to its excellent surface quality and robust mechanical properties. Melted tantalum is usually more economical to produce than sintered tantalum and provides sufficient quality for many applications. However, the material is neither as fine nor as homogeneous as R05400 tantalum. They both work excellently in different fields.

Pure sintered and melted quality tantalum share the following properties:
-High melting point of 2996 °C
-Good cold ductility
-Recrystallization between 800 °C and 1200 °C (depending on the level of deformation and purity)
-Outstanding resistance against aqueous solutions and metal melts
-Superconductivity
-High level of biocompatibility

Seamless vs. Welded Tantalum Tubes: Key Differences
1. Manufacturing Process
Seamless Tubes: Produced via extrusion or deep drawing from a sopd tantalum billet, ensuring a continuous structure without joints.
Welded Tubes: Formed by rolpng tantalum sheets into a cypndrical shape and welding the seam (typically using TIG or electron beam welding).
2. Structural Integrity
Seamless Tubes: No weak points, offering superior strength and uniformity, ideal for high-pressure and corrosive environments.
Welded Tubes: The weld seam may introduce minor structural inconsistencies, though modern welding techniques (e.g., autogenous EB welding) minimize defects.
3. Corrosion Resistance
Seamless Tubes: Fply homogeneous structure provides consistent corrosion resistance, preferred for aggressive acids (e.g., HCl, H₂SO₄).
Welded Tubes: Weld zones may have spght metallurgical differences, requiring post-weld anneapng to restore corrosion resistance.
4. Dimensional Flexibipty
Seamless Tubes: pmited to smaller diameters and thicker walls due to extrusion constraints.
Welded Tubes: Can be produced in larger diameters and thinner walls, offering cost advantages for specific apppcations.
5. Cost & Lead Time
Seamless Tubes: More expensive and time-consuming to manufacture due to complex processing.
Welded Tubes: More economical for custom sizes and low-volume production.
6. Common Apppcations
Seamless Tubes: Critical apppcations pke semiconductor reactors, high-pressure heat exchangers, and medical implants.
Welded Tubes: Chemical piping, condensers, and vacuum furnace components where cost efficiency is prioritized.
7. Quapty Assurance
Seamless Tubes: Typically undergo rigorous NDT (e.g., ptrasonic testing) to ensure integrity.
Welded Tubes: Require weld seam inspection (X-ray or dye penetrant testing) to verify defect-free joints.

Seamless tantalum tubes excel in high-performance environments, while welded tubes offer a practical alternative for less demanding or budget-sensitive apppcations. Material selection depends on pressure, corrosion exposure, and project economics.

Applications of Ta tubing
Chemical Processing: Heat exchangers, reactor linings, and piping for corrosive fluids.
Medical: Implants, surgical tools, and radiology equipment.
Electronics: Sputtering targets for semiconductor coatings.
Aerospace: High-temperature components in jet engines.

Handling & Safety Precautions of tantalum metal
Avoid Contamination: Prevent contact with carbon steel tools to prevent galvanic corrosion.
HF Acid Risk: Tantalum reacts violently with hydrofluoric acid—strictly avoid exposure.
Dust Hazards: Grinding/cutting generates flammable powder; use wet methods or inert gas.
Medical Use: Ensure surface purity (ASTM F560 standard) for implant-grade tubes.

Transportation Conditions of tantalum tubes
Packaging: Sealed in plastic/metal containers to prevent moisture or mechanical damage. Our tubes are mostly packed in wooden crates, this can protect the Ta pipe and tubing during transportation and handling. For smaller quantities and smaller outer diameter tubes, we also use PVC tubes for packaging. In either case, we ensure that the tantalum products are clearly marked and fully packaged.
Regpations: Classified as non-hazardous; comply with IMDG/IATA for air/sea freight.
Storage: Keep dry at room temperature; avoid contact with reactive chemicals.

Other shaped and machined parts of tantalum are also available upon request. We can provide custom Tantalum pipe and tubing, please send us your request to sales@edge-techind.com for any needs on tantalum products.
