Silicon Carbide Grinding Media

SiC Ceramic Grinding Media

Silicon carbide is known for its extreme hardness, second only to diamond, which allows for effective grinding of hard and abrasive materials such as ceramics and minerals. Available in the form of ceramic beads or balls, its high wear resistance and chemical inertness allow it to retain its shape and size after long-term use, ensuring consistent performance and reducing the frequency of replacement. Silicon carbide is chemically inert, making it ideal for grinding sensitive materials without causing contamination. It is resistant to high temperatures, ensuring stability and service life in extreme conditions, while its low density helps improve energy efficiency and reduce wear on milling equipment. Silicon Carbide Grinding Media are available from 5 mm to 30 mm. Other custom sizes are available on request.

Advantages of Silicon Carbide Grinding Media

Compared with steel balls, the main advantages of silicon carbide balls are:
-59% lighter than steel balls, greatly reducing the centrifugal force, rolling, and wear on the grooves when the bearing runs at high speed and acceleration
-Higher hardness than steel, HV reaches 2500;
-Low friction coefficient
-The thermal expansion coefficient is 1/4 of steel and can withstand temperature changes
-High-temperature resistance: silicon carbide ceramic balls still have high strength and hardness at high temperatures of 1650°C;
-Never rust, can work under oil-free lubrication conditions
-More resistant to chemical corrosion than steel
-No metal pollution
-Non-magnetic
-Electrical insulation
-No adhesion wear

Application of Silicon Carbide Grinding Media

-Ceramic Industry: For grinding and milling of advanced ceramics and ceramic composites
-Mining and Mineral Processing: For grinding operations of ores and minerals such as gold, copper, iron ore, and rare earth minerals. SiC grinding media withstands the abrasiveness of these materials
Paints and Coatings: Fine particle size and uniform dispersion are critical in the production of paints, coatings, and inks. SiC grinding media helps achieve the desired particle size distribution and consistent quality.
-Metallurgical Industry: For grinding and milling operations in metal processing, including steel, aluminum, and titanium alloys. The hardness and wear resistance of SiC grinding media improve efficiency and reduce processing costs.
